(Musical Eschatology) 2024.
CD/Digital
Experimental – GERMANY/USA
Saxophonist Danny Kamins is a frequent guest of my critical reviews of his musical work and activities that encompass a wider range of musical advances that experiment with jazz and other closely related forms. His albums, as well as his creations, are rich in music and exploratory research, and in his own way, he examines the endless possibilities of creative challenge, which occupy a certain author’s personality.
He also often collaborates with numerous other artists, together with them searching for new challenges and new solutions in the wide space of the musical cosmos, where borders do not exist. The current release, “The East End Sessions”, was realized and recorded together with double bassist Adam Goodwin, stationed in Germany, and their jointly recorded session, included 6 instrumental tracks.
This is an experimental edition, where the dialogues of the saxophone and the bass are confronted in different ways. Often there is no basis from which the instrumental “conflict” starts, but through the prism of certain playing “narrative”, ideas emerge through the fingers of these two artists. Unusual noises, screeching, and the sudden “calming” of playing settings, are often in conflict with the emergence of new themes that participate in parallel, through the structure of the set form.
The complete album was recorded on September 15th, 2023, by Tobin Armstrong in Houston, TX. Mixed and mastered by Tobin Armstrong too.
“The East End Session” is another creative product of Danny Kamins, as well as his collaborator Adam Goodwin.
