Xanthoula Dakovanou is an artist who has been dealing with Greek tradition and history in a specific way for some time. She also analyzes different decades and landscapes through music with a psychological prism and approach. Xanthoula has also participated in several releases, TV programs, and other cultural segments, and its action is recognized as authentic.
„Rizituals“ is her third solo album, where she was assisted by proven Greek music professionals. In her music we can find Mediterranean, Balkan and national folk influences, but its specificity is the search for the musical tradition of older decades and periods. „Rizituals“ with nine songs is inspired by Cretan vocal traditions, particularly by the Cretan songs of Rizitka. The music on the album contains Byzantine and medieval elements, combined using traditional as well as classical and contemporary instruments. In the album we can face it with Rizitka songs about a woman in different traditional roles, but spiritual and psychological aspects are present in an original and exciting form. The songs themselves faithfully reflect different states, from sadness to joy, and the very mix of ancient and new, represents a kind of challenge, both for the actors themselves and for the listeners.
