Heavy/power metal/classic metal – SCOTLAND
Tantrum is a band from Glasgow that has been working continuously for almost a decade. During that time, together with the actual one, they released 3 albums, several EP’s and singles. They had problems with frequent line-up changes, and probably because of that, one “prominent” career path, I guess, did not go in the desired direction.
“No Place For The Damned” current product with 11 tracks in, is a long prepared release, from which I assume the band expects a lot, and it is a kind of concept album, based on mythology, Greek legends, problems of poverty, climate change. There’s no doubt that in technical terms this is a very meticulously realized release, with excellent production, by Chris Home. In terms of expression, the band combines epic metal elements with traditional metal, which mostly leans on heavy/power tracks, with strong influences from the 80′s. And which many would confirm by clearly accepting the standards-messages that came from the NWOBHM era. Melodiousness, frequent guitar duels, as well as strong riffs are done in an old-school way, which for the most part convincing technical standardization and mentioned excellent production, bring into the present time and current “moment”. The prepared material is mostly uniform, the songs have a connecting thread, and at times the band also shows great “passion”, when performing the songs.
This is one of those releases that will cause mixed reactions from different analysts as well as listeners, but Tantrum, for their part, did everything to make the album look exactly the way they envisioned it.
