Thanateros are another German group who had a big break between the release of first album and the actual, second. The break lasted 23 years, because “The First Rite” appeared in 2001, and in October 11, 2024. the world premiere of the current album “Tranceforming”, took place.
Thanateros is led by frontman Ben Richter, who is the author of all the music, and the album contains a total of 12 songs. The German group is on the field of genre form, which has been extremely popular in the last few years, and which is practiced in Europe and the world by a large number of newer artists. Epic, futuristic, fiction elements represent the themes of the “Tranceforming” album, which in a way can be treated as a conceptual release, although in its essence, it is not. Colorful arrangement solutions, with a “filmic interior” are present on practically all songs, which are basically mostly based on elements of folk metal/Celtic folk, with additions of other metal accessories, which are “softened” in the production, for a reason.
Despite, perhaps for my taste, a slightly greater presence of mannerist elements in the very concept and expression of the group, certain ideas have a pronounced authenticity, as well as a clear author’s signature.
All technical details on the album deserve laudatory epithets, and I assume that this band really has something to “say” on the concert stage.
